On October 8th, 2009, BelTox organized for the 3rd time its Introductory Course on Toxicology and Ecotoxicology at the Elewijt Conference Center. The course took the whole day and started with an introduction to toxicology and epidemiology. After this introduction, concrete cases involving toxic substances were presented and analysed. The participants then received a nice overview on how risk assessment is performed in the field of health and environment. The last part consisted of a presentation on risk communication and labeling of chemical products, specially in the context of the new European regulations, REACH and CLP.
As usual, this was also the occasion for the participants to have an open discussion with experts from different fields, not only during the conference but also during the lunch.
The feedback obtained after the course was very positive. The global overview is appreciated by most of participants. The training content met their expectations and was considered useful to their work. The same participants were also interested in a more detailed course.
Contributions to the Introductory Course came from academia (Prof.Lison, Prof. Hoet and Prof. Nawrot), toxicology consulting (Dr Van Deun and Dr Tencalla), industry (Drs de Gerlache and Dr Martens), Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (Dr Janssens) and the Scientific Institute of Public Health (Dr Blaude).
